Hello, the .zip file will use the permissions from the folder where you have saved it. Doesn't matter which permissions are on the previous location of the original folder. AFAIK when you compress a file/folder NTFS permissions are not saved. This requires a backup software.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

You can’t really “preserve” permission like this using zip. You need to use either a backup software or xcopy/robocopy programs.. You need a backup program to do the thing you woud like. Here are the articles for XCOPY and ROBOCOPY: ROBOCOPY http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc733145(WS.10).aspx See the "/copy:<CopyFlags>" XCOPY http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/xcopy.mspx?mfr=true See the /o and /x

Thank you. XCOPY and ROBOCOPY copy the file and retain the permissions, which is excellent. But doesn't seem to compress. Any thoughts?
