Windows 2008 Firewall Issues after Microsoft Update(s)
Hello,
After installing the latest Windows Updates on my Server 2008 (R1) Standard machine, the firewall is having issues.
For example, even though I have it in Group Policy to unblock certain ports / programs, although it's showing up as an exception in Windows Firewall, it's not allowing traffic through.
Additionally, if I go in and manually change (anything) in the firewall, pressing the OK button (to accept and close) no longer does anything (the button graphic shows I am pressing it, but the firewall dialog menu stays open.)
Any suggestions, I'm at a loss.

Turning Windows Firewall Off and then back ON fixes the issue until the next reboot of the server. Upon reboot, server is blocking the traffic (the checkbox for block all traffic is UNchecked).

Hi,
Thank you for your post.
Have you try to restore your Windows Firewall with Advanced Security as defaults? Try the following steps to reset your Firewall settings and see how is everything
going.
Open a command prompt session (Run as administrator)
Type netsh, press ENTER
Then type advfirewall and press ENTER
Type reset export c:\Temp\wfas.wfw and press ENTER
The command exports the complete Windows Firewall with Advanced Security configuration to the file c:\Temp\wfas.wfw, and then resets the Windows Firewall with Advanced
Security configuration to its default configuration settings and rules.
Best Regards,

Hi James,
Thanks for your help. I ran the command(S) and get the following error in the command prompt:
An unrecoverable Windows Firewall error (0x80320023) occured.
(I will reboot and see if it's fixed the issue despite the problem, I wanted to type the error while it's still on the screen.) More to come...

Upon reboot, Windows Firewall is still blocking all incoming traffic. If I turn the firewall off, then on again, it unblocks and allows me in.
