Hi, I've a problem with one of my server under Windows 2008 R2 SP1 (Std Edition). On this server, i'm unable to backup the Exchange Database Files. i'm using "wbadmin start backup -backuptarget:\\server\shareXX\dayXX -include:C:\Exchange_DB -quiet" and i've the following message Running a consistency check for the application Exchange. Please wait while files to backup for volume Local Disk(C:) are identified. This might take several minutes. Found (6650) files. File identification is complete. The backup of volume Local Disk(C:) to \\server\shareXX\dayXX is starting... The backup of volume Local Disk(C:) could not be completed. Error: The requested operation could not be completed due to a file system limitation The backup operation stopped before completing. Summary of the backup operation: The backup operation stopped before completing. Does anyone have an idea of the problem ? Thank in advance Matt

Hello Matt, Could you please first run "Chkdsk /F" on Local Disk(C:) before you take backup? Meanwhile, please also ensure that Exchange Engine is not working when you want to backup it. Hope it helps. ScorprioTechNet Software Assurance Managed Newsgroup MCTS: Windows Vista | Exchange Server 2007 MCITP: Enterprise Support Technician | Server & Enterprise Admin | System Architect

Hello Syed, Thank for the interesting article, i've check the fragmentation of the disk, which is low and my two database on the disk are small (around 2 Gb). I stopped all exchange services, done a defragmentation and tryed a backup after but i still have the problem :(.

Hi Matt, The "file system limitation" error can occur when the backup target is specified as a network share, but is located on the same physical server. Please make sure to specify the target using its local path if this is the case. Hi Tim, Sorry to have replyed so late. The problem is now solved. Two problems was mixed : 1) Windows Backup don't seem to support very well more than 2 Tb partitions (with or without 2Tb of data). 2) Backup was done on the same disk by a network share (\\server\backup\day..). To solve the first problem, i've shrinked the partition and to solve the second one, i make the backup on a remote server which have DFS replication with my network share (\\server\backup\day...), then my exchange backup are replicated across differents servers and sites. Thank again for all your help
