Windows 2003 server automatically logs off
Our IT guysfaced a problem with one of their production server which runs on Windows 2003 server. The system logged off by itself giving out the message in the spool as "Windows saved user 'Server003\admin_user registry' while an application or service was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by the user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it is no longer in use" during logoff. Also, they hadno auto logoff functionalities that are set on server. But,they could find that during logoff, the system was running on low space on C drive. Can this be the reason for logoff ?Does windows logoff the user automatically, for any reasons? What arethe reasons wherethe systemcan log you off unless somebody logs into the system and logs off manually.

Hi customer, By default, Windows will not logoff the current user session automatically. For the automatically log off issue, there are many possible causes: 1. Please check if the settings for the screensaver (Force application termination option) is enabled. If so, it will automatically quit a user's running programs and to log the user off of a workstation after a specified time period. You may refer to: 314999 How To Force Users to Quit Programs and Log Off After a Period of Inactivity in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;314999 2. Please check if you have configured some scheduled task to automatically logoff the user at a specific time. 3. Please ensure that logon hours restriction is not configured. You may refer to: 816666 HOW TO: Limit User Logon Time in a Domain in Windows Server 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;816666 4. Some third party program or service running at the background could cause the automatic logoff issue. Please boot into Clean Boot environment to see if the issue still exists. You may refer to: How to perform a clean boot procedure to prevent background programs from interfering with a game or a program that you currently use http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796 5. If the user is logged on in a terminal session, the idle time and session timeout settings may also trigger log off. Please check the "Sessions" tab of the "RDP-Tcp" connection properties dialog to ensure that "Active session limit", "Idle session limit", and action items are configured properly. Hope it helps.
