Windows 2003 STD migration

Hello,

We are in the process of migrating from Windows 2003 STD to Windows 2012 R2.  We have installed a new Windows 2012 R2 server and promoted it to a DC.  After the Windows 2012 R2 is promoted, we are missing the Policies and Scripts folder and an error under File Replication Service shows:

The File Replication Service is having trouble enabling replication from SERVER2003 to SERVER2012R2 for c:\windows\sysvol\domain using the DNS name SERVER2003.company.local. FRS will keep retrying.
Following are some of the reasons you would see this warning.

[1] FRS can not correctly resolve the DNS name SERVER2003.company.local from this computer.
[2] FRS is not running on SERVER2003.company.local.
[3] The topology information in the Active Directory Domain Services for this replica has not yet replicated to all the Domain Controllers.

This event log message will appear once per connection, After the problem is fixed you will see another event log message indicating that the connection has been established.

How can we get the the sysvol replicating from the SERVER2003 to SERVER2012R2?

Hi,

It might take some time until the SYSVOL gets shared/advertised on a new domain controller, but if it still does not show up, run a dcdiag /a and ipconfig /all from both DCs and paste here the results.

Also see if windows firewalls are allowing communication between the 2 DCs.

Hope it helps.

Regards,

Calin
