Windows 2003 SMTP Service DNS setting
Hi I currently have two Windows 2003 servers running the smtp service use for outgoing mail. Most of the email sending applications that I am using can only point to one server. Is there some entry I could add in DNS to allow some sort of DNS round robbin to ensure that if one smtp server is down the other one will be used? Thanks

Hello Berket, We may configure round robin on DNS servers to share and distribute network resource loads. Please check: Configuring round robin http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc787484(WS.10).aspx Meanwhile, to ensure the high availability of SMTP servers, you may consider configure SMTP resource on Cluster environment. For more information, please refer to: How to Configure the SMTP Resource on a Windows 2000-Based Server Cluster http://support.microsoft.com/kb/280400 Hope it helps. This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
