Windows 2003R2 Permissions issues with shares
Good Day,Perhaps someone here can help me on this matter. I have setup a Windows2003R2 SP2 server which will house a FTP server (separate software package).this server has two drives OS and Data drive of which I shared the Datadirectory. Our domain is called XYZ and I created this as a workgroupcalled XYZ so other users can see the Server. I then added three users withsame user names and passwords on the workgroup that they use on our domainso the passwords and login are the same. I then setup a group called FTPGroup and added said users to Group. On the D drive I created a foldercalled Data and shared that folder. I then added the group to the Sharegiving full access under share permission for FTP Group and added the groupto security giving them full access as well. When I go to our normal PC on the domain and look in network places underWindows Networking (XP SP2) I see the server. When I click on it to gainaccess to the share I get the following errors.\\ftp is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this networkresource. Contact the administrator of the server to find out if you haveaccess permissions. The network path was not foundI have also tried just with my name and no group to make sure that I did notmiss anything. I have verified that the users names and passwords are thesame, it just seems that we are not seeing the share or something else iswrong. Also Firewall is not active on the server.A few years ago I set this up just like it and it worked but that was on awindows 2003 server. The server failed due to a old system MB. I wantedto do it again but now having this issue and I cannot figure out what I amdoing wrong. Any ideas would be much appreciated.ThanksAdam Raff

Hello, domain users have a different SID then local workstationuser accounts, so this is expected from my point of view. Just using the same names doesn't mean you have the same permissions.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

Hi Meinolf,Thank you for the reply. I understand what you are saying my issue is that I an not even getting anything when I click on the computer. I would figure that at a minuim I would get a login to enter my account info. I just get that error message. So something is blocking the login. If the folder is shared and I am able to browse the network and it is on the network. When I click on it it should at least give me a login window. that is my problem it's not giving me anything.Any ideas why or again am I missing something.thanksAdam Raff
