Windows 2000 Native Mode - Windows 2008 R2
Experts, We have a infrastructure with Windows 2003 and Windows 2000 combination. when i check the Domain functional level in Windows 2003 DC, the Current domain functional level as set to "Windows 2000 Native" and Select an available domain functional level is set to "Windows Server 2003". We are planning to introduce Windows 2008 R2 as memberserver for SCCM implementation. The domain controllers have not been upgrade to 2003 native mode and may not be compatible with Windows 2008. What is the risk and impact we have for SCCM if we have this implemented on Windows 2K8 as a member server attaching to the current domain? Please advice

Hello, functional levels have only effect on DCs not on domain controllers. So running member servers in the domain shouldn't be a problem. For the Windows 2000 server machines keep in mind that this OS is not longer supported.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

Hi, Agree with Meinolf that functional levels have only effects on Domain Controllers. Anyway, Windows 2000 Server native functional level supports Windows Server 2008 R2 Domain Controllers. Hi, Agree with Meinolf and Bruce that functioanl levels have only effect on domain controllers. So keep in mind that is process is not reversible. One when click raise then is not possible that back to early state. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322692 Best regards
