Windows2003 Server hangs after WinUpdate
Our Windows 2003 Server with Active Directory hangs after a Update. When the System starts, it stand on "applying computer settings". We did disconnect the network cabels disconnect the serial usv etc. The System don't start finaly. Any Ideas? Best Regards Enrico!

It probably doesn't hang. Active Directory and DNS server are the ones I've noticed doing this. DNS server tries to load Active Directory and fails and AD tries to get DNS information. I've seen servers that have taken almost an hour to start up when booting them.Using another DNS server (like another Domain Controller) for the network card has made them boot faster.

Check for AD Replication and DNS related event IDs , in case you manage to login to the DC.Raj

Hi Enrico -Baum, Thank you for posting in windows server forums, Can you please test the behavior in safe mode with networking and let us know the issue.There was certain time when APC powerchute UPS was causing problems and yes i accepts Mats suggestion of checking for the DNS server settings. sainath
