WinSvr2008 x64 SP2 Installation Fails to Find SP1
The headline almost says it all; I am asked to install SP1 and the installation exits. The system mmcshows that SP1 is already installed which is what I would expect since it was integrated with the release of WinSvr2008. Since I can't reinstall to fix any missing registryentries/configuration files, not sure what to do. Suggestions?

Using en_fr_de_ja_es_windows_vista_sp_and_windows_server_2008_sp2_x86_x64_ia64_dvd_342431.iso, the message is "You need to install Windows Server Service Pack 1 before continuing. After you Install Windows Server Service Pack 1, restart this installation."

have you got the RTM version of windows server 2008 ?? can you please make it sure. Download the patch from here install it and then run Sp2 setup.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955430http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd335036(WS.10).aspx Setup prerequisites There are only two prerequisites for installing SP2: Your operating system, Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista must have Service Pack 1 installed. Users updating through Windows Update/WSUS must install an update to the servicing stack (described in knowledge base article 955430) that handles installation and removal of software updates, language packs, and optional Windows features. This update is necessary to successfully install and uninstall the service pack; it also improves the performance and reliability of the service pack installation. This update may require a reboot and is part of the standalone update package. It will be offered as a separate package on Windows Update. Users installing SP2 in standalone format will have this update built-in http://technetfaqs.wordpress.com

To the best of my knowledge, it is the RTM. It is build 6001/CSD build 1616 with every update except KB955430. Before attempting to install the service pack, I had already tried to install KB955430 via Windows Update. I amencountering error800B0100. BING only returns 6 hits with no solutions that I see to installing it.One thread, http://www.vistaheads.com/forums/microsoft-public-windowsupdate/356430-kb955430-failing-server-core.html,seems to indicate that the update is incorporated into the SP2 and really isn't a pre-requisite.

This has been reported before. Look on the Windows Vista Service Packs/Windows Server 2008 Service Packsforum.

Yes it was reported, but I don't see a solution or a plan of diagnostics; which tread did you think contains one?

We've had exactly the same issue on W2008 standard gold version 64 bit. I raised it as a support incident and MS confirmed that it IS a known bug they are currently working on. I am awaiting news of a fix. Jason
