Win2003 Sp2 Uninstall missing
How does one remove WinSrv2003 Sp2 under following conditions? Add Remove Programs does not contain WindowsServer2003 Service Pack 2 as a selection. The other option as identified on Microsoft Support pages: < To work around this problem, remove the service pack by running the Spuninst.exe utility. The Spuninst.exe utility is located in the following folder: %SystemRoot%\$NTServicepackUninstall$ > Is not viable because Spuninst.exe is not found on the disk nor is %SystemRoot%\$NTServicepackUninstall$. All file explorer viewing options are set to see normally hidden and operating system files. The following is seen in the Control Panel - System General Tab - Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition Service Pack 2 The how and why: I'm trying to Reinstall WinServ2003 but it knew SP2 had been installed and would not blindly install over it. In order to reinstall WinServ2003 it indicated to uninstall Sp2 first. In order to accomplish that required reinstalling SP2 because the original $uninstall directory had been removed to make space....bla ..bla..bla. (It's not pretty | Please don't ask why. There are no good answers )

Hello atkmh_at_Sonic.net,One doesn't remove SP2 if the option is not there an the uninstall folder is missing. The folder %SystemRoot%\$NTServicepackUninstall$ contains the backed up files when the service pack was installed.those are used to roll back to when the service pack is removed.Since that folder is not present, there are no files to roll back to.So since you are trying to reinstall WinServ2003, you may want to create a slipstreamed install point that includes SP2 so as to be able to do the upgrade. The deployment guide for SP2 should have instructions on creating a slip-streamed folder, or they may call it integrated installation.http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc755981(WS.10).aspxThanks, Darrell Gorter This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights

Hi, From your description, I understand that when trying to reinstall Windows Server 2003, it stated SP2 had been installed and you should uninstall SP2 first. However, SP2 cannot be uninstalled since Spuninst.exe is not found. To bypass this problem, besides create a slipstreamed install package, you can also reformat the partition before installing Windows Server 2003. Then, there will be no OS or SP2 which may be detected. Note: Please make sure to back up all data before formatting. For more information, please refer to this article: Install Windows Server 2003 http://www.petri.co.il/install_windows_2003.htm Regards, Bruce
