Why does svchost.exe - dhcp, eventlog, lmhosts have a different process ID every 7-15 minutes?
Three of our windows services continuously stops and starts again roughly every 10 minutes. These Windows Services are: DHCP Client TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper Windows Event Log We can't seem to figure out the root cause is. We notice that there's a process that houses all three services. The PID continuously changes, so something either keeps crashing or restarting. We try to view any errors in the Event Viewer, but we can't because the Windows event log service is disabled and the event viewer would be unavailable. Has anyone run into this issue? We're stuck.

Hi Customer, Is your server OS windows 2008? What happened before this issue occurred? Please try to patch KB2518874 on your server. If it not work, please test server in safe mode without network and post any useful information about your server. Windows Event Log service may crash in Windows Vista or in Windows Server 2008 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2518874Regards, Rick Tan

Yes, this is on Windows Server 2008 x64. It just started happening out of the blue. I don't recall doing anything to the server that could have initiated this issue. Hmm...this sounds like a possible fix, but I only see a hotfix for a x86 system. Since I am experiencing this issue on a 64-bit system, it'd be nice to have a hotfix for that. Unless of course, the fix for a x64 is also in the x86 hotfix.

Event Logs don't say anything because the event log service continuously crashes. Hopefully, this hotfix will fix our issue.
