Which server software?
I have a client, that is breaking up into 2 seperate divisions. They need to access a Business Critical system on the old division, and for this they need to be authenticated against their AD. I need to setup a new server for the new division, but I am unsure which version of Windows Server to choose. They will be no more than 10-12 employeesThey need their own server for file & printI expect to sign them up for Office365 for Exchange and SharePointI need to be able to setup trust for the new divisions ADon the old to run the business application with AD authentication mentioned above. Can anyone point me in the right direction, both as to which Windows Server version to choose, and how to accomplish the trust part? Thank you!

As you need a trust relationship, that rules out sbs. With 10-12 employees, file and print services and AD, I'd go for 2008R2 Standard. As often, one problem is setting up AD with only one server. If at all possible, advice for a second AD server. For setting up trust relationships, I find this a good starting point: http://www.misdivision.com/blog/how-to-create-a-trust-in-windows-server-2008-r2 . Which Version is the old division's server?

As suggested you can go for Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard edition with this you also get Hyper V using which you can consider virtualized file/print server and also set it up and a domain controller. With AD its recommended that you have at least 2 domain controllers for disaster recovery hence you could also setup and additional virtual DC within the Hyper V. Look here for more info on Win2k8 R2- http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/server-cloud/windows-server/2008-r2-standard.aspx Although you only want it for 10-12 users SBS wont work for the other requirement you have to setup trust between domains as it's not supported by SBS which would otherwise be a good option. Standard Edition allows one virtualized instance. So you could run a virtual DC. Doesn't help for hardware failure, though.
