When do patches stop being released?
Hi,
I am looking to put together a business case to upgrade our systems to the latest and greatest versions. We are currently running XP SP3, Office 2003 and Exchange 2003. What I need to know is when MS will stop producing patches, providing support
etc as this needs to go right up the management chain as in theory we can't spend any money. I have licenses for some of the above but we need to provide a reason for doing the upgrade (the fun of doing it from a techie doesn't quite cut it in the board
room).
I have seen a few of the product lifecycle pages but they are not particularly clear.
Does the XP class as a business product? From my understanding this would give an end of support at Win 7 release date + 2 years which would be 22/10/2011, is this right?
Exchange 2003 support would end at 09/11/2011 (given 09/11/2009 was Exchange 2010 rel date)
Office 2003 support would end at 15/07/2012 (given 15/07/2010 Office 2010 rel date although 08/04/2014 is given for Office 2003 end of extended support (see
http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?p1=2488)
Any help would be appreciated as it seems a little hit and miss to the N+2 formula given in the lifecycle (http://support.microsoft.com/gp/lifepolicy)
Ta.
