What uses IPV6 locally on SBS 08
Recently we have on one of our servers an issue with IPV6 that when you disable it, it causes all kinds of mayham. Very similar to the issues decribed in so many forums:
Microsoft Exchange services fail to start Server hangs at "Applying Computer Settings..." (can eventually logon after 30 - 60 minutes)
Network icons show as offline Some or all of the following events Booting in Safe Mode w/Networking and enabling IPV6 again restores functionality...
I sure alot of users have probably been aware of this, however it strikes as unusual because we have not seen this issue until recently. SBS 08 has been around for a while and we are pretty sure that IPV6 has been disabled before, with no issues up
until now.
Our question is, what local services actually depend on IPV6 being active? Why is it such a disability to have it disabled if nothing up to this point is actually fully utilizing it? Is it a secret ploy of Microsoft to keep the system dependant on this feature
for when IPV6 actually becomes used? Which is fair enough, but looking online for a descriptive answer is hard to come by. Maybe Im looking in the wrong areas?
Any suggestions?
