Weird Dns records/query
We are migrating from Active Directory 2003 to 2008 R2. 3 weeks ago i've demoted a few 2003 DC's(Lag site). Also deleted those VM's. Now i have DNS logging enabled on a 2003 DNS server to see if server or other equipment still uses the old DNS servers. Although i demoted 3 2003 DC's, i still see them in de DNS log. http://members.quicknet.nl/biga/Windows2003/WeirdDNSStuff.jpg I,ve looked through the DNS console in the forward en reverse lookup zone, but can't find them. Also no entries of those DC's in Sites and Services. Thanx

Hi, Thanks for posting here. According the DNS debug log you provided , it seems this query operation was established form remote host 10.128.8.112, and this is not indicate that the old hosts’ DNS records is still remain on your DNS system, I think this log could be ignored or perhaps you might start investigate from host 10.128.8.112 to verify which application or service was attempted to query this record. If you have further concern about DNS system health , checking DNS event log and using netdiag utility to diagnose by perform “netdiag /test:dns” are good ways: How to use the Network Diagnostics Tool (Netdiag.exe) in Windows 2000 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321708 Troubleshooting DNS http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc739852(WS.10).aspx Thanks. No updates for the time being. DNS logging is enabled on a 2003 DC, that's going to be de-moted next week. I will enable DNS logging on a new 2008 DC.. I'll be back If i see weird stuff passing by.. Thanx
