Web cannot be view locally
Hi expert, My office 's web server appear a strange problem. Internal users cannot browse the web page but the web can be viewed at public. In short term solution, I just added the local IP address at their host file. What I did: 1) I checked the permission on the web server. Only local user have permission to read so I added "Domain User Group" as a member and assign read access. Sitaution turn better, I can view the web but it will be not work after few mins, I need to refresh the screen few time and the screen turn normal. So I just wonder is it relate with "time out" setting. Is there any area I miss to configure? Thanks!

Hi, we need more info: what kind of pages is published by your web server ? html, asp, aspx ... ? what browser is used by your domain users ? how is configured the refresh of Temporary Internet Files in these browsers ? It seems the address cannot be solved. How can you write this ? What do you write in browser address bar to get your intranet site ? I mean the result just like the link cannot be solved. actually it is a public address, no matter internal or external , it should be work. So I said the short term solution is add local ip address at host file to make it become intranet site.

The result of nslookup is good. so I dont think it is caused from DNS server.

if you have modified local hosts file on every client, your dns server is not consulted. can you post "nslookup" result ?Edoardo Benussi - Microsoft MVP Management Infrastructure - Systems Administration https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/Profile/Benussi Windows Server Italian Forum Moderator edo[at]mvps[dot]org

My PC didnot add the IP address at host file. But my nslookup result is good. Mostly I need to refresh and refresh to get the signal from web server. At that time nslookup still perfect.. And if i added the IP address at host file to run it locally, no delay. That's why I wonder some configuration at web server I missed.

Hi, Yes. It is public IP and I can nslookup with it. External can view the web with no problem. Internal need to add private IP at host file. What mean by host header?

If you have a Windows Domain and DNS Server installed on your domain controller, you can add a record in Forward Lookup zone of domain with ip address of your web server. It would be better restore original hosts file on all your clients.Edoardo Benussi - Microsoft MVP Management Infrastructure - Systems Administration https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/Profile/Benussi Windows Server Italian Forum Moderator edo[at]mvps[dot]org

I just add a new record under my domain? How to add the web address on it? if i add x.abc.com with private ip . It will create 2 sub folder if abc.com is not your windows domain, you have two ways: 1) in dns, under Forward Lookup Zone, you can create a primary zone called "x.abc.com" and, in that zone, you create an host record without name and ip address equal to ip og your web server; 2) in dns, under Forward Lookup Zone, you can create a primary zone called "abc.com" and, in that zone, you create an host record called "x" and ip address equal to ip og your web server; if abc.com is both your internet domain and windows domain, also under forward lookup zone, under your domain zone you create an host record called "x" and ip address equal to ip og your web server. I have 2 DNS server. When I add secondary zone under Forward Lookup Zone, it need to specific which DNS servers you want to copy to zone. If I specific current DNS server, it prompt invalid IP address when press the finish button. If I specific another DNS server, it success but it show error "The DNS server encoutered a problem while attempting to load the zone. The transfer of zone data from the master server failed." When I view the properties of that secondary zone, in General tape status is "Expired" Anything I need to do?
