WebDAV and SSL Drive Mapping
Hello, I have a question that may be related to Windows 7, or it might be something related to Windows Server 2008 R2, so I will be posting here first. I am an IT Student, and have setup a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine with IIS7 to run tests on. I am in the process of setting up NFS, and WebDAV (partly to run comparisons). The server has a Self-Assigned SSL Certificate (256 bit encrypted), and running on a Personal network with a static internal IP of 10.0.1.20. Ports 80 and 443 are forwarded to it. Server roles installed include: - Active Directory Certificate Services - Active Directory Domain Services - DNS Server - File Services - Web Server (IIS) On my network I have the server, a Desktop running Windows 7 Pro x64, and a Laptop running OS X 10.6. I have managed to setup an intranet without any problems, it works both with HTTP and HTTPS using the self-signed certificate. I also setup SFTP, which is also working without any problems. I have not completed setting up the NFS, but am currently working on WebDAV (since it is a part of IIS). I followed these articles in setting up WebDAV (and have triple checked the steps since): - http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/386/using-the-webdav-redirector - http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/350/installing-and-configuring-webdav-on-iis-7/#003 My problem is getting WebDAV to function with HTTPS connections, and I am having a three part contradiction. Part 1: My laptop can connect to the WebDAV with both HTTP and HTTPS, no problems at all. Part 2: Windows 7 needed me to specify the user as "\user" to avoid the domain mismatch, and works with HTTP WebDAV. However, I cannot seem to get it to access HTTPS, it asks for my credentials twice and then fails with the following error: --------------------------- Windows --------------------------- The mapped network drive could not be created because the following error has occurred:An unexpected network error occurred. --------------------------- OK --------------------------- When entering my credentials this time, it does not specify a domain at the bottom, like it did for the HTTP WebDAV mapping. So I do not know if I need to specify my credentials differently than normal. I have also attempted using the "net use" command, which when provided a username gives me the error code 1790, and without it gives me the error code 59. Part 3: My college also provided a WebDAV folder for accessing our student and course files, and it uses HTTPS as well. Windows 7 can map this without any problems. Conclusion/Contradiction: Given the first part of this situation, both Mac and Windows 7 can connect to HTTP, and Mac can access the HTTPS version of my WebDAV. This would lead me to assume that WebDAV and IIS7 must be properly configured. Given the second part, Windows cannot seem to map WebDAV through SSL to my server, for reasons unknown. As such I would assume Windows 7 is the problem and cannot map for some reason. Then with the third part in this equation, Windows 7 can map to the WebDAV at the College using HTTPS without any issues at all. This would lead me back to square one, something must not be configured right in my WebDAV. However, this contradicts the results of the first part. When I purposely enter invalid credentials for the college's WebDAV login, it allows me to enter them three times and then throws this error: --------------------------- Windows --------------------------- The mapped network drive could not be created because the following error has occurred:Access is denied. --------------------------- OK --------------------------- Here are my thoughts on the various possibilities, the problem is where do I go from here to check them: - Am I using invalid credentials? (Is there some unique format for SSL login?) - Is something configured incorrectly in IIS7 or WebDAV that is subtle enough that it does not interfere with the Mac OS X Finder Protocal in accessing WebDAV, but would cause Windows 7 to fail? - Am I missing a port forwarding setting of some sort used by Windows 7 that map network drives using HTTPS? - Does Windows 7 WebDAV Drive Mapping support 256 bit encryption, or is it limited to 128? Any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your reply Brent, I have reposted my question over in the general section of the IIS7 forums. I wasn't sure which specific area this falls under, as I have not yet identified the culprit behind the problems I am having. http://forums.iis.net/p/1174545/1967008.aspx#1967008
