WOL, finding MAC address
I hope this is the right forum.....Does anyone know if there is a way to find the MAC address of an offline domain member computer? I need to power it on remotely to run some updates and don't want to waste time and fuel just to push a button.I have cheked the ARP cache of the local server but it isn't listed...Draccus

Hi, Thanks for the post. Unfortunately, there is no way to find the MAC address of an offline domain member computer. Please understand that the entry in its local ARP cache will only stay there until the entry has not been used and the ARP cache timeout has expired. In this case, we could introduce SCCM 2007. In SCCM 2007, there is Wake On Lan feature to wake up clients to perform scheduled activities, such as patch installation. Through hardware inventory, SCCM 2007 server can collect and record the client related information, such as MAC. For more information about this feature, please refer to the following link: Wake On LAN in Configuration Manager http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb693668.aspx Hope this helps.

You can take a look in DHCP-leases in your DHCP server - there is a chance to find there the MAC-address of this offline computer (lease expiration period is long approximatelly one week by default)
