WMI DCOM ports Help
Hi Friends, I need your help - and this time on WMI. As you know WMI uses DCOM and which internally uses a range of Ports to communicate - my queries are not able to communicate between two data centers because of multiple firewalls. Anyone ever restricted DCOM ports? if yes, can you give me some pointers which can help me to do so in my environment. Also let me know if there are some known issues\concerns. I am getting RPC Errors. looking fwd for the reply. Sarabpreet Singh Anand SQL Server MVP Blog , Personal website This posting is provided , "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. Thanks Malte, I checked the KB Article and discussed this with my Wintel Team, as per them RPC is enabled already and the issue is somewhere else(probably on DCOM) thier justification is if RPC has a Problem then i won't even be able to Ping or take RDP, but since i am able to Ping and take RDP so the problem is somewhere else. What's your take on this? I am totally confused since i am a SQL Pro and don't know much of WMI and RPCs.Sarabpreet Singh Anand SQL Server MVP Blog , Personal website This posting is provided , "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. Hi, i am wondery why dcom/rpc should work if you can ping / rdp the machine. RDP uses tcp port 3389 und ping users the protocol icmp. If active firewalls are between you computer and the target server this doesn't saying anything. To test RPC you can try portQry(Ui) http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=24009 In these you can select "manual input..." and type port 135 (tcp) (from client) Another tool is tcpview http://technet.microsoft.com/de-de/sysinternals/bb897437 With this you can simply check on the server if the connections "comes in" Greetings Malte
