WIndows Server 2008 Datacenter Won't recognize Seagate External harddrive
Hi, When I plug in my External Seagate Freeagent GoFlex drive into all USB's on the server. Windows Says "USB Device Not Recognized". I try and search for drivers online and windows cannot find any. The drive just sits here. I called Seagate and they had no drivers for it. They said Windows should have Plug and Play drivers. They told me there was none cause it should work. WHICH it does on my laptop with Windows 7 . Can someone help me with this driver issue. Yes I already ran windows update. I just had same problem. It would recognize in disk mgmt, and in device mgr., but not in "my computer". Solution was to map a drive letter to external and poof it works!

Have you tried another computer? That particular hard drive works with all releases of Windows since XP; you should not have any issues. Do other external hard drive work?

What you need to do is go to Device Manager/Universal Serial Bus Controllers, look for USB to ATA/ATAPI Bridge or something like that. Uninstall the drivers and restart the machine. Windows 2008 should replace the drivers that were there from the first upgrade and you should see your hard drive at this time.
