WINS Replication
Hey guys, anybody see any issues having 2008 WINS servers that are members of a 2008 domain replicate with an untrusted 2003 domain with 2003 WINS servers? I found the snipit from an MS technet article that says it can be done between 2003 WINS servers and untrusted domains, but wasn't sure about between a 2003 and 2008 domain. Replication between untrusted domains It is possible to set up WINS replication between one or more WINS servers in domains that do not have a trust relationship. You can do this without a valid user account in the untrusting domain. To configure replication, an administrator for each WINS server must use the WINS console to manually configure that server to permit this replication. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc786754(WS.10).aspx Thanks! I haven't had to set it up personally, but WINS is likely going to be mostly the same between 2003 and 2008 (since Microsoft is phasing it out). I would guess that manually configuring the replication according to that article should still work. Have you tried it in a test environment? -- Mike Burr

WINS is not dependent on any trusts. I have set this up/managed on numerous occasions. WINS replication is not based on authentication. WINS info is started to become scarce and outdated.
