WINS Error EventID 4224 after I restart the service on W2008 Server
Hello, When I restart my WINS Server service, hosted on a W2008 Std. Server Sp1, I get an error message: event ID 4224, Source WINS, with following details: System - Provider [ Name] Wins - EventID 4224 [ Qualifiers] 49153 Level 2 Task 0 Keywords 0x80000000000000 - TimeCreated [ SystemTime] 2010-04-07T16:20:28.000Z EventRecordID 59947 Channel System Computer AAAAAAAA.YYYYY.XXX Security - EventData 042A0000FAFBFFFF I tried to do all available "normal" tasks for WINS but to no avail. I get this error Message each time I restart the service. Do I have to recreate the WINS database or is there any other way on how to get rid of this error? Thanx, Florian

Hi Florian, Thanks for the post. This behavior may be harmless and there is in fact no relation to an actual issue with WINS or the WINS database in particular in this case. For more information, please take a look at the following article: Spurious WINS Event ID 4224 on Windows Server 2008 http://blogs.technet.com/networking/archive/2009/06/05/spurious-wins-event-id-4224-on-windows-server-2008.aspx Hope this helps. Miles- I am having an issue that seems related to this. In addition to the WINS event 4224, when I open the WINS Manager and click on Server Status, the status for the local WINS servers comes back as "Not responding". The service is indeed running. Neither a service restart, nor a reboot corrects the problem. I have also attempted uninstalling and reinstalling WINS, and deleting the database. Nothing changes the behavior. This problem came to light after a non-windows client couldn't access shares on the WINS/DNS/AD server. Any thoughts? Thanks! Bryan
