W32tm / query /source issue
Hi
I'm trying to use "w32tm" to check on out servers here and I'm,
seeing the following problem with some (not all) of our server and can't seem to find out why. Here's
the command:
w32tm /query /verbose /computer:server1
/status
w32tm /query /computer:server1 /source
The following error occurred: The procedure number
is out
of range.
(0x800706D1)
but other machines are fine. Any ideas what I should check here?
Also This issue occurring only for windows 2003 Server DC.

What is your DFL and run the DCDIAG /V and post the output.Try to find the windows time event for error.

Hi
I'm unable to download DCDiag log from SkyDrive. However tell me did you see any failed statement which says Advertising failed in DCDiag /v
If your answer is yes, then check the DNS settings and Time Server settings on PDC and on the problem server. For more info follow below mention link.

If i check the error code from the err tool it shows me the error is due to system files being corrupt. You can use sfc /scannow to repair the damage system files. Don't run this tool directly on the DC w/o backup. Also, w32tm requires port 123 UDP &
time servoces to be running on the system where you are running this command where as Net time doesn't have dependency of the time services, since it used RPC services to be running.
It is rare to see such error & i haven't found solution but i can surely say it is due to corrupt system files.

this doesn't seem to be the cause. I have multiple machines, including windows 7 & 2008 R2, have this same issue. Hard to believe it's file corruption on all of them

Sorry, this shouldn't have been marked as the answer.
Windows server 2003 doesn't support the w32tm /query command, even from a remote machine.
This error is completely reproducible.
