W2008 Server-Do I have a memory leak (or something else)?
I just set up a W2008 (64bit) member server on our domain. It has 4gb of ram, plus 6gb of virtual ram installed. Right now its only sharing files, and has BE2010 and Symantec Endpoint Protection (Client) running on it. This is our first
W2008 server, and first 64bit server, so I'm not really familiar w/its memory usage etc, but this thing seems to be using a lot of memory considering its not being used for any heavy duty services. I plan to set up some additional applications on it
and want to make sure first there is no memory leak or other problem. When I run task manager this is what it shows:
Total Memory 4084
Cached 2935
Free 70

If you want to use the server for 32bit applications, be prepared to experience latency, because the RAM you have on the server right now is not enough. Always remind
the following:
- a 32bit application running on a 64x OS server will always be slower than running on a x86 OS server, at same amount of RAM;
- you'll need about 1,5 - 2,0 x RAM more on a 64x OS server running 32bit applications than a "normal" server for the same application to run.
