W2003, SQL server on new hardware?
I have an old app (ASP .NET 2003?) running on a Windows 2003 server and using SQL Server 2000. I know, it's ancient, but there's no money to update it. There is money to purchase new hardware, though I'm concerned about running such old stuff on new CPUs, etc. Is there any way to determine this? A list somewhere or a support connection? Many thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Lyn

Hello Lyn,As long as you are going to keep same OS, W2K3 and same apps on the new hardware, it shouldn't be any problem. Just make sure the new hardware can handle W2K3 OS The problem I might see is if you decide to upgrade your OS then you may start thinking of apps compartibility etc.Isaac Oben MCITP:EA, MCSE

I believe you should be fine. I have many customers still using Windows Server 2003 and SQL Server 2000. Even if you upgrade the OS you should be OK as long the SQL Server is not MSDE.

Hi ,All the hardwares which are getting manufactured are targetting 64 bit , i wouldnt say they have stopped , but when buying a new hardware i would suggest you to think about the latest technologies which currently being applied and used. Virtualization is new trend in market , so think about virtualizing your servers. Coming back to your question , upgrade your SQL server because i do not think microsoft is releasing further service packs and i would like you to go throught the life cycle of sql 2000 http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?LN=en-us&p1=2852&x=0&y=7
