Visual Studio 2010 Server Explorer - adding a server on a different domain
I'm trying to add a remote computer to my "servers" list in the VS2010 server explorer, for the purpose of working with its WMI classes. Said computer is on a different domain than mine, but I can remote desktop to it using a domain user that is an admininstrator on that machine However, adding it via the "add server" dialog doesn't work- I've tried using IP, hostname and domain qualified host name. I have also specified the domain in the user field of the "Connect As" dialog ([domain]\[user]), as well as the correct password of course (the same combination works in mstsc) Any Ideas ?

If you want to join the computer to your domain then consider unjoining it and joining it again. I originally asked in the VS forum and was referred here. I can't change the trust relationship or join the other computer to my domain Are you saying I can't add a computer as a server in the server explorer if it's not in my domain (or in a domain that I trust) ?

Without a trust relationship, you will not be able to use resources of the other domain. I am not used with server explorer. It is for that I recommended asking in VS forums. Via remote desktop, that is another thing as you are using the local admin account to logon. Actually I'm using a user on the other domain, which is an admin on that machine - does that change anything ?

Hi, Without a trust relationship, you cannot access the recourse across domain. Via remote desktop, the account you use is from the remote domain or computer instead of a local account. For Visual Studio related issue, please ask VS Forum as Mr X mentioned.
