Virtual machines missing

Hello all,

I have a network set up and I am running Windows Server 2012 r2 Data Centre with an external storage unit. I had 5 virtual machines set up and all were functioning well until the storage unit that they were stored on needed a firmware update. The firmware update failed and the storage restarted resulting in Hyper-V displaying an "Off-Critical" state and a status of "Cannot connect to virtual machine configuration". I contacted the manufacturer of the storage unit and they recovered my data but it came at a cost. I had to restore the storage to factory defaults and lost the LUNS etc. I have now moved the folder with the virtual machine files onto the server itself but don't seem to be able to get the machines to work in the same way that they did before the crash. One of the machines seems to be the right size but the documents folder is empty and I don't see the same desktop icons that were previously on the machine. Some of the programs are also not visible. I really need these machines back. Some of the folders have two or more AVHDX files in them and I believe that this is normal if snapshots have been taken. What seems odd to me is that in the past when we have had issues the virtual machines restored themselves to how they were before the issue but not this time. I would really appreciate some help. I understand that it is not a good idea to put the virtual machines on a server but this was not my i
