Virtual Machine Licensing
I have installed Hyper-V on Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise edition. I have one Technet license key. I would like to add a virtual Windows Server 2008 R2 machine to test RDS. According to some FAQs, you are supposed to use one license
key for the physical machine and a different license key for the virtual machines. But Technet only provides one multiple activation license key (listed as 1/1). Do I use the same key for the virtual machines, or is there a place for me to find
a virtual license key? Thanks for your help.

Hello,
if the host machine is only running Hyper-V server role, then you are allowed to install 1 VM on it with the Standard edition and up to 4 VMs with Enterprise Edition, DataCenter edition will allow unlimited VMs.
And one license key should be fine. To be SURE about the use from TechNet licenses i suggest to call TechNet support.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.
