Several programs we tested can not view jpeg file on Windows Server 2008. These programs can view JPEG on Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and Server 2003. But Windows Media Player can view JPEG. Is this a bug or a feature of Windows Server 2008?

So, from your 2ns about *.jpeg is working on Windows Media player it seems you have installed Desktop Experience for Widows Server 2008. But guess its working on Windows Photo Gallery but you had been tricked because Windows Media Player and Windows Photo Gallery have thesimilar Interface. check the picture
