VSS and system state issue NTBackup
On a Win2003 Standard server SP2 we have an issue with the backup of the systemstate.
We use TSM (Tivoli Storage Manager) version 5.4 to make the backup. Recently we can not make a system state backup with TSM.Even with NTBackup no systemstate backup possible. We get this message:Error returned while creating the volume shadow copy: 0x800423of .
After some research we applied kb940349, kb934016 and kb940032 to the server and still the same error:
The latest updates are suppplied to the server.
Any ideas??
Thnx Jos

Hi,
The error code refers to a problem with the VSS Provider component not being properly registered for the NTBackup program. This problem can happen if some other backup software was installed and removed, but the uninstall process did not clean all entries out of the registry properly.
Please check that whether the default provider under registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VSS\Providers is listed as ERMVSS. If so, please backup and delete the registry key containing this reference, and then re-registered the MS Software Shadow Copy Provider service (SWPRV) and rebooted.
Error events are generated when you try to perform a system state backup on a Windows Server 2003-based computer
