VSS Snapshot Warning?
On 2 of our DCs that have been upgraded from W2K3 R2 to W2K8 we use BackupExec to backup to tape. Since upgrading when backing up the system state (using MS VSS) and exception is now generated:VSS Snapshot warning. File c:\windows\system32\inetsrv\inetinfo.exe is not present on the snapshot.I have no idea why this is suddenly causing an exception, but i'm pretty sure it's not a backupexec issue. Does anybody know how to solve it or if it will cause a problem should I ever need to restore the system state to either of these DCs?CheersAdam.

Hi Adam, I suggested that you use Windows Server Backup to test so that we can isolate the root cause. As Windows Server Backup is also based on VSS Snapshot, if it works while Backup Exec does not, it should be a Backup Exec related issue. If it is not a Backupexec issue (means Windows Server Backup work fine), please perform following steps: a. logon to the affected server, start Command Prompt. b. type the following command and press enter: vssadmin list writers > c:\writers.txt c. Please send me the writers.txt In addition, please follow the steps to rebuild the VSS subscriptions key to see if this fixes the problem. 1. Export the contents of the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\EventSystem key to a .reg file (as a backup). 2. Delete the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\EventSystem\{26c409cc-ae86-11d1-b616-00805fc79216}\Subscriptions key. (Just delete the Subscriptions subkey; leave the EventClasses key.) 3. Restart the server. 4. Run the "VSSADMIN LIST WRITERS" command. (without quotation mark) This causes the VSS entries in the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\EventSystem\{26c409cc-ae86-11d1-b616-00805fc79216}\Subscriptions key to be rebuilt when the writers initialize. 5. Next run the "VSSADMIN LIST WRITERS > c:\writers2.txt" command and email me both output. You may send me the output to tfwst@microsoft.com. Please keep the case link and add my name "Shaon" in email. Thanks.
