VPN Issues
I'm having issues with my VPN setup at my work. It is Microsoft RAS basic setup and it has had little to no issues in the past three years that it has been up. Some of the issues that I have had come across in the past have been little ones
and nothing crazy, but now it seems to be happening a lot more than not. When a user connects some times the shared drive will not connect for them and I will have to remap the network drive with the FQDN instead of the netbios name. I also have
some users having issues with connecting to our ERP system and the problems they are having is when they try to conenct it cannot contact the server. Well when I pinged the erp system in command line on one of the clients I noticed that it was resolving
to a different IP address thats not even part of the IP scheme I have. I also have some users remoting into their office computer from home and when they try to connect they cannot unless I put their FQDN for their computer in RDP. Any suggestions?

Hello,
Sounds like some sort of DNS issue. This might in its turn seem to affect the DHCP for the client connecting through VPN. I would start looking at DNS.

Thanks for your reply. I pretty much had an idea that it could be a dns issue, but where exactly in DNS would I look? I have gone into the DNS console and haven't seen anything out of the ordinary and I look at the logs and there aren't any
errors that indicate something is off. Any suggestions?

Hi,
Thanks for posting here.
What if select the “ Use default gateway on remote network “ check box , would this issue persist ?
How do you set RRAS to distribute IP addresses for remote computers ? via DHCP or set IP address pool in RRAS console ?
Please try setting primary DNS suffix for VPN connection on remote computers:
·
Right click VPN connection and click “properties”
·
Click “networking” tab and double click IPv4 protocol,
·
In IPv4 properties ,click “advanced”.
·
Input your internal domain name into “DNS suffix for this connection” entry in DNS tab
Meanwhile, please also make remote connection top of binding order list on remote client:
·
Click Start, click Run, type ncpa.cpl , and then click OK.
·
You can see the available connections in the LAN and High-Speed Internet section of the Network Connections window.
·
On the Advanced menu, click Advanced Settings, and then click the Adapters and Bindings tab.
·
In the Connections area, select the remote access connection. Use the arrow buttons to move the connection.
Thanks.

Hi Tiger,
Thank you for your time and assistance. Let me try some of these things out and I'll get back to you. To answer some of your questions.
I use DHCP to serve out IP addresses for the remote clients. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the "Use default gateway on remote network" is checked off by default?
