VM template storage classification-- Right ways to achieve this??

We have a new setup of vmm 2012 R2 and we are using SMB 3 storage from Netapp.

We want to classify the larger volumes as GOLD, SILVER and BRONZE.

This classification is to make sure the large workload VM's reside in GOLD Storage and so on.

Question:

----------

How to make sure the more IO intensive VM when created goes only to GOLD storage or a VM with less IO req. goes to SILVER storage??

Is it done through creating 'VM templates'?? One template for GOLD and one for SILVER and so on??

How can we achieve this requirement to make sure the right VM's goes to right Storage classification during VM creation??

Hi Sir,

Based on my understanding , the classification is used to help us to place the VM to the correct host , it acts as a tag .

For example , after you added the SMB share into VMM and allocated them into classifications , then you can attach the share to host :

Mean while setting the hardware configuration with "vhd classification" for VM template , then you can not put the VM into " wrong " host .

In you case you may need to create template for each purpose .
