VMM 2008 R2 and Server 2012 R2 Hosts

Hello,

I'm currently having issues trying to manage a two node Hyper-V failover cluster. The host machines are Server 2012 R2. Everything passed when I validated the cluster and created it. When viewing the virtual machines pane in SCVMM, the cluster name doesn't appear to have any issues. When you expand the drop down, both hosts are in the "Needs Attention" overall status. Here are the following status':

Connection Status: Not Responding

Agent Status: Not Responding

Agent Version: Up-To-Date

Virtualization Server Status: Unknown

Virtualization Server version: up-to-date

Clustering Service: Stopped

When I log on to both hosts, the clustering service is started and everything appears to be fine with the cluster. When I look at the Jobs log it's full of "Warning (13926) messages. I have two other failover clusters being managed by SCVMM 2008 R2 and everything is working. Any help is appreciated.

Can you confirm this:

- Hyper-V version is 2008 R2 SP1

- VMM version is 2012 R2

Was this cluster managed previously by another VMM Server ?

Can you post the waring message (Warning (13926) )

The SCVMM server OS is Server 2008 R2 SP1 running SCVMM 2008 R2 Version 2.0.4521.0 Service Pack 1.

The 2 node cluster is running Server 2012 R2 with the latest patches installed.

The error I'm receiving in SCVMM is as follows:

Warning (13926)

Host cluster TX1HCL2.MDTAX1.LOCAL was not fully refreshed because not all of the nodes could be contacted. Highly available storage and virtual network information reported for this cluster might be inaccurate.

Recommended Action
Ensure that all the nodes are online and do not have Not Responding status in Virtual Machine Manager. Then refresh the host cluster again.

No this is a brand new cluster that I've only tried to add to this SCVMM server.

It's odd but SCVMM 2008 R2 SP1 does not support Hyper-V 2012 or Hyper-V 2012 R2.

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc764273.aspx

You cannot manage these hosts using VMM 2008 R2/SP1.

Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V can only be managed by VMM 2012 R2

Can I create a VM on a 2008 R2 Cluster, create a template from the VM and then create multiple VM's from that template? Do you foresee an issue doing this?
