Using the ADTD Tool
I am using the ADTD for the first time ever and getting the error related to credentials. I have the tool installed on my local network machine not on the DC. Is this an

Need more information.
What is the purpose of using ADTD ?
Also, how you installed this tool ?
To run ADTD, you can simply use a Windows 7 computer or a Windows Server 2008 R2, The list of supported systems is mentioned here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13380

It will be great if you can share the complete error message, so that it will be easy for us to troubleshoot the issue. As far as I know, to run ADTD, you need at least a domain user (which has Read permission on the AD object), so please first check the credential youre using.

Its not necessary to run ADTD on a DC, as Carlo mentioned, you can even run it on a non-server OS.
