Using psexec.exe on Windows Servers
I have a team member that is trying to start a batch file remotely from a remote server. Is psexec.exe a good utility for this purpose on Windows Servers?

Yes that is a very good utility from MS(free tool). Wondering what do you want to achieve?Best regards Biswajit Biswas Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights. MCP 2003,MCSA 2003, MCSA:M 2003, CCNA, MCTS, Enterprise Admin

We are trying to remote in to a server to run a batch file using this utility. The problem is that we are unable to make this happen. A brief explananation of what was tried: 1. We tried to execute a batch file using the psexec.exe utility and we were unsuccessful. 2. We tried to execute a basic command prompt command using the psexec.exe utility on multiple servers. This was successful except on the first server that does not accept the command. The following is a screen shot of the error when attempting to run the utility from a remote server that fails: Suggestions are appreciated.Information Technology Systems Support Technician

Try using psexec \\COMPUTERNAME "c:\path_to_your_batch\run_me.bat" have you tried using the full path of the file, and also putting quotes around the path? Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Can you access \\erpdb01 without PSEXEC? Do you have admin privilege on this machine? Santhosh Sivarajan | MCTS, MCSE (W2K3/W2K/NT4), MCSA (W2K3/W2K/MSG), CCNA, Network+| Houston, TX Blogs - http://blogs.sivarajan.com/ This posting is provided AS IS with no warranties, and confers no rights.

Yes. All of our desktops access this server to run an application. This our Enterprise Resource Planning Server which is our equivalent of SAP. We connect to this server remotely all of the time to run a specific application on generic WAN desktops. As an addtional note, we have tried using quotes with no success. Normally quotes are reserved for special character such as spaces, but we tried this anyway. We are trying to run the most basic of applications to test the feasibility of this software. We are even using the direct path for the command prompt (C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe) with no success. The utility works great on all other servers. For some reason we continue to receive the error shown above on one of our particular servers. This is not a Windows firewall issue either as we have disabled the firewall for testing.Information Technology Systems Support Technician

what version of server are you trying to connect to? If its server 2008 / R2 can you put in a firewall rule to allow ports 139 and 445.Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Good idea, but Windows Firewall is currently disabled for troubleshooting. Opening ports will make now difference.Information Technology Systems Support Technician

Our deparment has multiple admins accessing one server. We were using too many RDC sessions at once preventing the software from accessing the server to complete its task. Thanks for all the help.Information Technology Systems Support Technician
