Using AIS with a proxy server .pac configuration script?

I have looked at the MDOP Deployment Guide regarding proxy server scenarios but I don't see if there is a way for AIS to function with a proxy scenario where a .pac config file is used for proxy connectivity.  Using a proxy is the only way to get access to the Internet.  Please advise.  Thank you.

Hi John!

My follow-up question is does the proxy require authentication as noted in the Technet document Step-by-Step Guide to Deploying the Asset Inventory Service Client Software in the section Configuring client computers that report to an authenticated proxy server.

From my understanding, WPAD [Web Proxy Auto discovery Protocol] is used to locate the Proxy Auto-Configuration [PAC] file and to configure the proxy settings for the client.  I don't suspect there would need to be any changes made, if you are using this as a method to configure the client to locate the proxy.  However, if the "physical" proxy requires authentication, then you will need to ensure that is done as noted in the Technet article.  Does that help?

Here's a useful link related to WPAD - http://www.findproxyforurl.com/ and http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc985335.aspx.

Hope this helps!
