Users Not Able to Save to Their Network Share
We have our student users set up with home folders shared on a Windows 2008 Standard file server. The path that each user is mapped to is this: \\ServerName\home$\GraduationYear\UserName. They have full permissions on their username folder but when they
try to save a document (Word, Excel, etc.), it gives them an "Access Denied" message. They are able to open the folder and, in my testing, are able to modify an existing document. My first idea was that this issue was happening because they don't
have any security rights on the home$ or GraduationYear folders. I currently don't think that is the case as we have teachers' home directories, albeit on another server, that are set up the exact same way but don't have this issue. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi,
If they are able open the dir in explorer and modify files then it cant be permissions. does this happen in other applications e.g. notepad or is it just word?
The way the permissions should work is the users will need list folder content up to the graduation year dir applied to this folder only under advance permissions after this they should be given full control to there username folder. though as this is mapping
it looks like they already have permissions to the folder and permissions down the tree to the folder.
let us know how you get on testing in an other application. Also what are the share permissions on the home$? as this will also affect the permissions as the lowest permissions will apply. 8B17

Thank you both for the suggestions. I think that I have the issue figured out. In the sharing permissions on the home$ folder, the Everyone permission was set to Read Only. I have checked the Change option.

For sure the share permission need to be open, and the NTFS's permission to be correct :-)
I'am happy you find your solution.MCP | MCTS 70-236: Exchange Server 2007, Configuring
