Userenv log query
Hi all, Hope you are well. I had a query around a userenv entry and was wondering if someone could assist. I am trying to understand roaming profile timings and part of this is to understand the following entries in the userenv log: USERENV(1e8.1ec) 10:18:48:662 FindTotalDiskSpaceNeeded: Largest 7 file size is 3354071 USERENV(1e8.1ec) 10:18:48:662 Available -1303326720 USERENV(1e8.1ec) 10:18:48:662 Needed 5767168 USERENV(1e8.1ec) 10:18:48:662 Src size 16485645 USERENV(1e8.1ec) 10:18:48:662 Dest size 16485645 I am trying to get an understanding of what these values correlate too. In this example the src and dest are the same, yet the needed value seems to imply a variance. thanks very much,

Hi, The above entries are regarding the “Find Total Disk Space Needed” analysis for the roaming profile, we can see the meaning by the words directly. For how to read and understand the Userenv Log, please refer to the following articles: http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/2008/11/11/understanding-how-to-read-a-userenv-log-part-1.aspx http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/2008/11/11/understanding-how-to-read-a-userenv-log-part-2.aspx Thanks. Hi there, I too can understand this relates to disk space required and then google for userenv links. While the userenv link you provide is good as a very basic overview it doesnt cover this topic at all. My question is regarding the forensics of the total disk space needed, what does it refer too intimately. What is source and what is destination, where is the "total disk space" relating too? why are some figures inverse etc.? I did some testing with "loaded" local profiles and observed verbose userenv activity but this did not really help as the numbers didnt marry up. . If you could find out that would be great! I know its not an easy one because noone on the internal MS DS alias has come back with an answer after 4 days so maybe you could escalate? thanks,
