Please post unedited ipconfig /all of server and problem client.

Make sure both DC/DNS server and XP machine have ip address of DC/DNS server as primary DNS on network connection properties and is not multi-homed. Also put public DNS addresses as forwarders only on local DNS server. Client should have local DNS address ONLY so client can find and logon to domain. Forwarders are so clients can find and resolve internet queries.

Try these,

Are you able to do a tracert to www.google.com

If yes, then check for any proxy settings in your browser.

Also try this "net stop dnscache" and then try to browse.

and please post the ipconfig /all  for both server and client as suggested by other members.

Hi Mohammed,

Now all my windows XP machines cannot resolve to the internet but it can ping to the google.com

In addition to others suggestions, please also make sure that there is no Firewall rule blocking TCP port 80 outbound traffic.

More information for you:

Dear Amy,

No changes has been done to firewall.

We have domain controller with Server 2008 R2 STD and created Additional Domain Controller as Win Srv 2012 R2 STD. Done replication as well Repadmin / Sync all

For one day all was fine ( Win 7 / Win 8 / Win xp machines all were fine and resolving to internet )

No changes on the firewall etc.

Next day Windows XP machines problem started they are communicating on local LAN / ping on the internet like google / yahoo etc.

But cannot resolve google.com or yahoo.com on the browser.

Kindly suggest the solution if anyone has faced the same problem.

Thanks.

I would recommend proceeding that way:

  • On all your internal DNS servers, make sure that you have configured DNS forwarders that point to your ISP DNS servers. Also, make sure that you do not have any public DNS server configured in the IP settings of your DNS servers
  • On the impacted computers, make sure that they point only to your internal DNS servers. No public DNS server should be configured. To make sure that the clients can do DNS resolution, use nslookup to check. When running nslookup you can double check the IP address of the DNS server you are querying. If you are not getting an IP address when doing the resolution then make sure that the DNS server is reachable and that port 53 is not blocked or filtered. You can use PortQry for checking.
  • If your clients are able to do DNS resolution then make sure the the IP address(s) are correct. If not then you might need to flush the DNS cache of your DNS server(s)
  • If the DNS resolution is done properly then you would need to check that http and https ports are not blocked or filtered when you are accessing these Websites. You can use PortQry to check that
  • If none helped then make sure that the local HOSTS files on your machines is not hardcoding the resolution to specific IPs for the unreachable websites

You can also try to disable all the security software you have (Just for testing). If you have a Proxy server then you will need to check the logs on it.
