Upgrading from 2003 to 2008, is Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 7 needed?
We have a number of 2003 servers that we will be replacing with 2008 servers. The 2003 servers are 2003 Standard x64 R2. We have ABE and the Admin Tools package installed on the 2003 servers. The 2003 servers are configured as file and print servers. Meaning there are home directories & shared data directories. Some servers are dedicated print servers. Some of the typical features that we use on the 2003 server from the Admin pack are Print Management, File Server Resource Management. Homes directories do have quotas. On the 2008 servers we do not need to install ABE but I am confused as to what replaces, if anything, the Admin Tool package. Does anything replace it at all or is the all of this functionality built-in to 2008?

In Windows 7 you can use the RSAT package to remotly manage the server. (http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=7887) You can still use some Admin Tool's tool, like "AD User and Computer" still work good, but never tested other Admin Tool's tool for like the printing's role.MCP | MCTS 70-236: Exchange Server 2007, Configuring

Hello, RSAT is required on Windows Vista or higher to manage Windows server 2008 or higher.
