Upgrading Win2003 to Win2003 R2 MMC issue
I want to upgrade Win2003 32x Stnd. to Win2003 R2 32x Stnd. for the added File Server Management features. Before I implement the update to the actual server I made a virtual machine that I backed up the server to. On the VM when I first tried running the W03 R2 update I got a bunch file missing please insert cd errors. I found kb818464 and followed those instructions. That got rid of the errors and the installation seemed fine. So after the OS upgrade I then upgrade the File Server role. When I try opening the File Server Manager I get an error: "MMC could not create the snap-in MMC could not creat the snap-in. The snap-in might not have been installed correctly. Name: File Server Resource Manager CLSID: FX:{f8abcd46c-1297-4474-9cdf-831ebb245f49}" How can I fix this?

Probably you have .NET Framework 1.1 and not .NET Framework 2. Similar thread: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserver2008appcompatabilityandcertification/thread/eb317c2f-ebf1-42fe-8fcc-a61a1246f5d9 Regards Milos

I see that I have v3.5 installed. Should I try reinstalling it?

Hi, I would like suggest you reinstall the .NET Framework. If possible, try to reinstall File Service Role, then install File Server and FSRM services to see the result. In addition, please also try the suggestion in the below thread: MMC could not create the snap-in For Windows Server 2003 enterprise edition http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/winserverGP/thread/37aaffeb-9faa-4889-9c8d-7b060cff5e32 The following KB should be helpful: You may be unable to open the FSRM MMC snap-in on a Windows Server 2003 R2-based computer http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949920/en-us Best Regards, Yan Li Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help. Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I found out there were other issues other than just the File Server Management feature. When I tried updating the server I would get an error relating to Internet Explorer. So just reinstalled Internet Explorer and ran the updates again. After finishing installing all the newest updates all the issues I was having are gone.
