Upgrading 2008 SP2 x86 to 2008 R2 x64 with Software Assurance Upgrade
I am trying to upgrade from 2008 R1 SP2 x86 to 2008 R2. We have SA and am trying to get the License to accept. I could not perform an upgrade since the x86 system can not read a x64 DVD. I did a clean install and activated for the 180 days. after that, I tried to enter my license and told me it was invalid, I am trying to use my original license since that is what I was told was valid. We do not have many servers and am using a MAK License. We have about 12 servers I would like to upgrade and am supposed to be able with out getting new licenses. Bill

Hello, you can't upgrade 32bit to 64bit architecture, this requires always a reinstall of the server. So make also sure after reinstall that you have the correct Windows server 2008 R2 license available, if this is the case, please post the error you get when trying to activate it.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.
