Upgrade Windows Server 2008 from RDP
Is it possible to upgrade from Windows Server 2008 to Windows Server 2008 R2 from RDP? Does setup prompt for user action during the upgrade progress before logon?

Hello, prepare an unattended installation with an answer file then you can be sure(after testing) that it will work. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc721929(WS.10).aspx The guide applies also to Windows server 2008.Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees , and confers no rights.

Thank you for your answer but what I want to know is if this is necessary for upgrade method. Maybe the unattended installation is needed for clean installation. In case for upgrading and if no user interaction is needed the upgrade will go on after server do some restarts and then I can login back to the new system. Is that true?

Hi, It is not practical to perform an unattended upgrading via Remote Desktop. Here is a similar thread: Upgrade Windows Server 2008 to 2008 R2 over remote desktop http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/winserversetup/thread/34c01c6f-fd5c-4c54-bd66-1e6ab35698b5 Hope it helps. Regards, Bruce
