Upgrade/Activate Server 2008 Trial
OK we bought a new server from Dell recently and it had Windows Server 2008 Enterprise with Hyper V pre-installed on it so it has an OEM product key sticker on it. However it did not come with any actual DVDs containing Server 2008 (it did come with 2 Server 2003 discs though). So I emailed Dell and asked them to send the DVD but then today we just received a box containing another OEM license sticker with another product key on. So I arranged again for them to send the actual media and not just a license key but we need to install the server tomorrow and have not got time to wait for the disc to arrive. We needed to rebuild the server so I downloaded the Windows Server 2008 Enterprise from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=13C7300E-935C-415A-A79C-538E933D5424&displaylang=enand have successfully installed it using the OEM product key on the server.I have activated this server now and installed SP2 and all patches etc but my question is - will it be fully functional and act just like any other Server 2008 machine? Or will it time out after 120 days or whatever the trial period is supposed to be? Is there any way I can check? Or if its activated does that mean for sure that it will not ever expire?ThanksChris

Hello Chris,With Windows Server 2008 Eval, the evaluation period was simply the activation grace period, extended via rearms. There was not a separate timebomb built into media. So if you activated the copy with the OEM product key,, it is fully functional and will work like any other Windows Server 2008 machine. Thanks,
