I received an error message when I tried to update my browser to Microsoft 8. The procedure entry point SHRegGetValueW could not be located in the dynamic link library SHLWAPI.dll I was trying to get into You Tube to watch music videos, when a message appeared that I needed to upgrade my browser. I also tried Firefox , with the same result. Thank you

I have not understood well the problem. As I see, it is an install / update problem. Please proceed like that: Run sfc /scannow Run chkdsk /r /f Download and install the System Update Readiness Tool for your OS Check if this solve your problem. If not, please reset windows update components. If the problem persists, I recommand to you to perform a repair install of your OS. What operating system are you running? That is a common error occurs when you do not have XP/2003 SP2 installed and you try to install IE8. Try upgrading to SP2.

Hi, This behavior can happen when Internet Explorer has the incorrect version of the Shlwapi.dll file installed. You may copy and install a different version of Shlwapi.dll onto your computer from a computer that is running the same version of Internet Explorer, and that is not experiencing the same behavior. I would like to suggest you refer to the following Microsoft KB articles for how to troubleshoot this Internet Explorer 8 installation issue: How to solve Internet Explorer 8 installation problems http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949220 Random Error Messages in Internet Explorer If You Have the Incorrect Version of the Shlwapi.dll File Installed http://support.microsoft.com/kb/284706 Regards,Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
