Hello,

I notice today that the download status is:

Updates needing files: 2

Downloaded 1,332.54 MB of 1,333.05 MB

I've done a few manual syncs and completely opened up the firewall but still the same message. I found in a previous discussion to run BITSADMIN /LIST /ALLUSERS /VERBOSE to find which files it is stuck on. This is the output,

I recently got this same type of message, although the files look legit. Here are the stats on my WSUS server (Windows 2008 SP 2). WSUS version 3.2.7600.251

Listed 9 job(s).

Most of the updates stuck in the bits queue are Windows Defender updates. I have tried to clear the Bits cache but when attempting to clear the bits queue (bitsadmin /reset /allusers) I get the message : Unable to cancel. On further analysis it looks like the bits jobs are owned by nt authority\network service. This is similar to your issue andrew, although I am unable to cancel the jobs as admin on the server. Let me know if you get any resolution, perhaps your solution may solve mine as well.

I have since kicked off a wsusutil reset which I am now regretting as it makes the MMC inaccessible. From other people's experience it could also take 5 days to run. I will let you know if that worked or not. Andrew

I'm having the same issue.

Private WSUS server.  Same BITSADMIN logs with the same failing DNS and file.

I've also started a wsusutil reset.  My WSUS server is a VM that I took a snapshot of before I ran this.  I'll try and let you know what I find as well.

I had a feeling I wouldn't be alone with this issue. My guess is it is a screw up somewhere. I think that snapshot will come in handy, decided today that we couldn't wait for the wsusutil reset to complete. WSUS is too important for it be inaccessible for such a long period of time especially with updates not only coming out once a month which is increasingly becoming the norm.

Mine wasn't a VM so had to remove the role and re-add it. This went ok so now re-synchronising. Hopefully the above issue does not occur again.

Our wsuscontent was over 300GB which we now think was not well managed and hence the reset would take weeks to actually complete if we had left it running.

Good luck with yours!

Well, I'm in about the same boat as you in terms of size.  I download everything but drivers.

After 3 days and reading your email I reverted to the snapshot and am researching how to find these particular "updates" and remove them.

The most annoying thing at this time is that because they never finish downloading, my Downloaded size never decreases.  I show an increasing size.

You Can try running the following command on your WSUS server - WSUSUtil /Reset

After this, let the scheduled Sync happen and the issue will be resolved.
