Unexpected Reboot in windows Server
Hi, I am having many windows server 2003 servers, on daily basis we receives the server got rebooted unexpectedly. when i check these situation, in that server i find one event 6008 simply says the server got reboot unexpected on the time. i could not find the exact reason why that server got unexpected reboot. It must be there is one reason, due to application, or drivers, or memory or some thing.. but i dont know how to identify that. I recommended to enable complete memory dump in all servers. how to view the complete memory dump log?? any tools available?? Will this log provide the cause of unexpected reason??? Please assist me. Hi Chandru, 1. check whether your server configured for dump file or not? if so, check for the path and minidump file (file name can be *.dmp). Also this thread will help you: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winservergen/thread/e914ec99-912e-40f6-97ca-f70a5353b8f1 Still if you want to know more about dump file analysis, here is the link: http://blogs.technet.com/b/askcore/archive/2008/11/01/how-to-debug-kernel-mode-blue-screen-crashes-for-beginners.aspx#3476888 Regards, Ravikumar P

If you didn't get your luck in event log then 1st thing that you should try is : Disables Automatic restart (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315192). For Memory Dump: please refer Ravi kumar URL : http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winservergen/thread/e914ec99-912e-40f6-97ca-f70a5353b8f1 Is there any antivirus scan or backup process is running during that unexpected reboot? Have you recently installed any new hardware or software or have you done any firmware upgradation. What is the server model, Use server diagnostic tool to know is there is any hardware issue ? You can use also use system File Checker tool (SFC.exe) to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files, it may be because you may have installed something like windows update or some software that may be misbehaving. Repair your file system and scan it, your server may be the infected one. How to use the System File Checker tool: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833 Thanks Ashok Kumar
