Unable to map a drive from windows server 2008 to another server in a different AD site
I have two AD sites. From Site1, when I try to map a drive on a windows 2008R2 server pointing to windows 2003 servers in site2, I get the message "The network path was not found". If I try to do the same but from a windows 2003 server in site1, I donot face any problem. I can also map a drive from windows 2008R2 server in Site1 pointing to windows server 2003 server in Site1. Please assist to resolve this problem.Feroz

Please try mapping using the ip address instead of host name. http://www.arabitpro.com

Please check the connectivity from site1 to site 2 by pinging both the servers. Disable any firewall between the sites or on the server. http://www.arabitpro.com

Connectivity from site1 to site2 is fine. I can ping the servers. This problem is only with windows 2008R2 servers in site1. It looks like there is some securoty setting which is restricting access. I cant even remotely connect via perfmon.Feroz

Hi, Please check whether you have Symantec Endpoint Protection installed on Windows 2008 R2 server. If Symantec Endpoint Protection installed, you may refer to this KB to resolve this issue: Network shares become unresponsive after some time on a Windows Server 2003 or 2008 or 2008 R2-based-based computer running Symantec Endpoint Protection prior to 11.0.4202 (MR4-MP2) or Symantec Antivirus 10.2, and you receive an error message http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948732 If no Symantec Endpoint Protection installed, you may modify policy settings and check the result: Local Policy/Security Options: Network Security: Allow Local System to use computer identity for NTLM ---- Disabled User Account Control: Behavior of the elevation prompt for administrators in Admin Approval Mode ---- Elevate without prompting User Account Control: Run all administrators in Admin Approval Mode ---- Disabled User Account Control: switch to the Secure desktop when prompint for elevation ---- Disabled For more information please refer to following MS articles: windows server 2008 r2 - network drive map http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsserver2008r2networking/thread/0cbd6121-b523-4818-aaba-96486b6be99b Are your client machines getting errors such as Network Path Not Found or The Specified Network Name Is No Longer Available when connecting to a Windows 2008 Server share? http://blogs.technet.com/b/networking/archive/2010/09/24/are-your-client-machines-getting-errors-such-as-network-path-not-found-or-the-specified-network-name-is-no-longer-available-when-connecting-to-a-windows-2008-server-share.aspxLawrence TechNet Community Support
